Chabela’s Baja Sea Scrolls, Book I
HARPOONED - Murder at the Film Festival
Chabela’s Baja Sea Scrolls series is about a retirement community of expats living in La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico. Harpooned is the first installment.
It’s November and the current buzz is the upcoming Baja Film Festival. Best friends Chabela, Judy, and Ruby have already bought their wardrobes for that week. They were beaming with joy and trying to lose ten pounds before the event.
Days before the festival, they are struck with a most bizarre murder. A man was harpooned with a flagpole bearing the flag of Albania. The police had a very interesting suspect, someone connected to the film festival. Unfortunately, he was on the run.
Nonetheless, Chabela, Judy and Ruby were going to the festival anyway. Armed with pepper spray, a stun gun, and stiletto heels, they were ready for anything. As the date approached, there were whisperings among the community about one woman. She was very attractive and born in Albania.
Beyond that, no one could get a word out of her. It was that empty stare into space she did when she heard the word Albania, that almost gave her away. The secret was there but no one knew what it was. As the case unfolds, they eventually learn about connections from Albania all the way to Canada.
